When Avery Thornton needs to escape a first day of school disaster, she ducks into an equipment room to hide and meets someone else who's also having a really bad day. Eli Fields just got demoted to third string on the football team, a sport he doesn't even really want to play. On a hunt for a dance partner before her competition season begins, Avery discovers Eli's secret, non-football life outside of school. She thinks he could be the dance partner she's dreamed about, but Eli wants no part of dancing with Avery. Happily-ever-after: barring death, she's got a real shot at it.

EXCERPT:

"I love home delivery." Malik lounged in his doorway, eyeing me the way the wolf must have with the three little pigs. His British accent was pure sin.

"I love you arrogance. That you didn't bother moving after I almost killed you."

He laughed, flashing straight white teeth against his bronze skin. He was still the only being I'd ever met who could pull off a Caesar cut and was still the stuff of billionaire romance cover fantasies in his soft gray trousers that was artfully tailored to the hard lines of his body and navy shirt, carelessly folded back to the cuffs. "O, petal. I'd say I missed you, but I didn't. Now, unless you brought the more interesting twin?" He peered into the hallway. "No?"

He shut the door, but I stuffed my foot in to block it. Not like he politely stopped trying to close it. "Ow." I pushed my shoulder into the door to keep my poor bones from breaking. "If you weren't wondering why I was here, you wouldn't have let security buzz me up or let my toes cross the wards I'm sure you've got strung across the door.

"Ten seconds."

"That's not-"

"Five, four..."

"Demons are being bound." I rushed my words as he made a buzzing noise.

Malik yanked me inside by my collar and slammed the door.

I wrenched free.

His penthouse apartment hadn't changed. still to-die-for sweeping views of the city, a massive glass wine storage unit in the open concept space, and a loft bedroom. He pointed at one of the leather sofas, custom made to hug the curved walls. "Sit and talk."

REVIEW:

*****
I absolutely loved this book. It was a fantastic read. I enjoyed Nava and Rohan's relationship and I enjoyed Nava's smart-aleck responses to the demon and to her lover when it was warranted. I loved the way she decided to bring down the thing that hurt her friend. It was great. It was fast-paced. I liked the cover. It looks just like the Nava I pictured. It was fun and a little bit scary but more than anything it was exciting. No wonder she is an award-winning author. Deborah is an author that clearly is on her way to becoming one of the best. I can't wait to read her other works.

Today I would like to welcome to my blog, Peter Wilson, and his Young Adult book, Jack Gregson and The Forgotten Portal. This book is right up my alley. Thanks for being on my blog Peter and thank you Goddess Fish for allowing me to be a part of this tour!

GENRE: Young Adult

BlURB: Winner of the Bronze medal 2017 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards in the Pre-Teen Fiction-Mystery category.

Something has changed at Gregson Manor. An evil force from the family's past has returned to upheave their lives. Jack and his cousins explore the family secrets as they are pulled through a portal into a universe of endless worlds and possibilities. Together, they race to escape and destroy the evil Theorden and his followers who strive to unlock the power of the Forgotten Portal and wreck havoc on Gregson Manor and the world.

EXCERPT:

They continued down the mud path until reaching a junction where three paths met and the Warden Statue stood before them.

"The Monk," David said as they looked up at it. Over the years the three of them had named all twenty-three statues of Gregson manor, based purely on what the person looked like While they new each represented important Gregson family members from different generations, that hadn't stopped them inventing some of the more childish names such as The Fat Dwarf, Big Butt Betty and Jack's personal favorite, The Constipated General.

The Monk stood on a small pedestal, the total height of the statue being around two meters. He had bare feet, with long flowing robes closed by a rope tied around his waist. His hands were pressed together at chest height as if praying and his shaved head was bowed with eyes closed.

"What do we do now? There's no blue emerald here that I can see," Rosie asked, examining the statue from all angles.

"Don't know, that nutty women didn't say." David replied, referring to the curator. "She did tell us to bring the book though, maybe that will tell us something."
Rosie pulled it out, then dropped the bag to the ground and sat on it. She went to the contents page and read down the list until she came to the chapter on the Rear Garden.

She started to read.
The Rear Garden is situated at the rear of the Gregson Manor...

"Whoever wrote this really spells things out, don't they? Does it mention that the grass is green and the trees point upwards in a tree-like fashion?" David asks sarcastically. "It's like its written by a moron, for morons."

Hello and welcome. I would like to thank Enchanted Book Promotions for allowing me to be a part of the Release Blitz for Love on the Free Side by Mariah Ankenman!

TEASER:

His soft groan caused her to raise her head in alarm. "I'm sorry. Did that hurt?" Alcohol could sting like a son of a gun, but his gaze didn't reveal pain, but heat. She couldn't help her eyes widen in shock. The same raging fire she remembered so long ago burned from his dark brown eyes. All of it aimed right at her.
Oh no, no. No, no, no, no, no!
"The...there. You're all set." Ducking her head, she busied herself with putting away the first aid supplies, hoping he'd leave without saying anything.
     "Jamie."
     So much for hoping.
     "We need to talk about-"
"No." She cut him off, raising her head to glare. "We don't need to talk. About anything."
His brows furrowed, gaze darkening. "Yes, I think we do. What happened between us- "
"Is in the past," she interrupted once again. "Let's leave it there." Heaven knew she sure as heck didn't want to wade through that heartbreak again. "I'm your boss and you're my employee. For now, we're just coworkers.
His jaw clenched, battered hands curling into fists. Rising from his chair, he leaned down until he was inches from his face. Warm, coffee-scented breath caressed her cheeks, teasing her lips, making her ache to feel his mouth on hers again.
"Fine, you are the boss, but we are more than just coworkers. We have a past, Jamie, and you can't pretend it never happened. Pretend we never happened."

Today I would like to welcome Aja James to my blog. She is the author of the Paranormal Fantasy Romance, Pure Healing. I would also like to thank Goddess Fish Promotions for allowing me to be a part of this tour.

BLURB:

Enter the world of Pure Ones, a race of immortals, supernatural powerful beings who protect humankind, where sexual intercourse with anyone other than one's Eternal Mate leads to a slow, painful death within thirty days.

The healer of the race, Rain, is the only exception to this rule.To harness and accumulate enough energy to heal severe wounds, especially as the war between her people and the vampire hordes accelerates, she must take a Consort once every ten years and draw strength from his blood and body. But as the ear wears on, few Pure-males who are strong enough to serve as her Consort remain. Valerius, Protector of the race, is the strongest candidate.

Despite their instant attraction ten years ago when they first met, Valerius has staunchly avoided applying to the be the Healer's Consort. The brutality and violence he suffered as a Roman sex in his human life ate away at this soul, leaving a dark abyss of torment and self-doubt.

Now, as Rain's strength drains with every healing act, Valerius cannot escape the fact that he may be the only one who can save her, and in so doing afford his people greater hope for the future as battles intensify.

Will Rain and Valerius find their way to each other as the struggles between good and evil evolve?

EXCERPT:

Rain bid farewell for the day to the third qualified pure-male and watched him slowly and painstakingly make his way beyond the threshold of the Rite Enclosure.

She closed her eyes and released a pent-up breath. It had been a long second day in the three-day Rite of the Phoenix, a day she looked forward to only slightly less than the third and final day. Today she had pushed the males almost to their endurance. She was surprised they hadn't decided to withdraw their application.

The Phoenix Cycle would be much worse.

As she prepared to leave the chamber, Wan'er came forth with a nonplussed expression.

"My lady," her handmaiden said, haltingly. "It appears you have one final applicant."

"What?" Rain responded reflexively. She heard her handmaiden perfectly well, but the words didn't make a lick of sense.

Wan'er shifted a bit nervously as if indecisive about how to break some bad news. "Your final applicant is waiting in the antechamber." She bit her lower lip and blurted, "It is my lord, Valerius."

Rain's eyebrows shot up in shock. Surely she had not heard correctly.

"Shall I show him in and prepare him for the test?" Wan'er asked tentatively, uncertain of her lady's mood.

Without answering her handmaiden, Rain marched angrily to the antechamber and threw apart the double doors.

"Just what do you think you're doing?" she demanded of the warrior leaning against the back wall. She braced herself against the welcome sight of him in full health. She'd been on tender hooks all the previous day wondering whether she'd been able to heal him completely, whether she should have checked on him. She could barely concentrate on the first day's test, she'd been so distracted. But now that he appeared fully recovered, her anger overrode all concern.

He straightened from the wall and stood tall and alert before her. "Applying to serve you, Healer."

MY REVIEW:

****1/2 stars

First off let me say that I almost got tired of reading about vampires and such until I read Pure Healing. The book was wonderful! The characters strong. I love Rain and I adore wounded heroes that do the right thing whether they want to or not. Mrs. James got my attention from the very first page and did not lose it until the end. The story was a thrilling read about love and loss and I can not wait to read other books by this author! It was exciting and kept me up for awhile. She reminds me of Shannon Butcher, which is one of my favorite authors.

AUTHOR BIO and LINKS:

Aja has been writing stories since the age of six, and novels since the age of thirteen. While she'd be the first to admit that those early efforts weren't particularly good, she sure loved putting them down on paper!

The best part of writing according to Aja, is that it's completely organic, the way the stories develop. When the inspiration hits, she writes just so she herself can learn where the characters are headed because oftentimes, they take her by surprise! It is her ultimate dream to share stories with as many readers as she possibly can.

Her other loves include art, cooking, old movies (anything with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Redford, Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Clark Gable and all the song and dance numbers because she can't watch them and not be happy!)

She adores taking long walks with her husband and running after her two rambunctious kids. She has traveled extensively (all seven continents except Antarctica) and has a multi-cultural upbringing. She speaks two and a half languages and binge watch TV shows when the mood strikes.

Aja has a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature and Economics and two Masters degrees, one of which is in East Asian studies.
