How important do you think getting the perfect cover is to you?
Covers are important. Look at the success of EL James, Fifty Shades, franchise. One of the reasons the books took off the way they did was because their covers were uncharacteristically demure. Erring on the side of discretion isn't something the romance industry is typically good at. As a rule, it's all heaving bosoms and brawny backsides.
No woman wants to get caught reading a book with a lurid cover. It's one of the reasons ebooks is so successful in the genre of romance. On the other hand, a cover tells the reader what to expect, so it's really a Catch-22. I'm just glad covers aren't my "department" because I would make them entirely too artsy and they would never sell. Besides, the fun part for me is sending photos to the art department of what I think my hero's might look like. This one, for example. He's the prototype for Brandon McBride in DREAM LOVER which comes out in July.
Hello salty goodness:
AUTHOR BIO:
Award winning author Stacey Keith doesn't own a television, but reads compulsively and would, in fact, go stark raving bonkers without books, most of which are crammed into every corner of the house. She lives with her Jazz musician boyfriend in Civita Castellena, a medieval village in Italy that sits atop a cliff, and she spends her days writing in a nearby abandoned 12th Century church. But the two things she is most proud of are her ability to cook pasta alla matricana without burning down the kitchen, and swearing volubly in Italian with all the appropriate hand gestures.
